Road trips! Who doesn’t love them? Some people long for them, and some live for them. Road trips are synonymous with joy, adventure, and surprise. It opens your horizons and allows you to see the world from a new perspective. Road trips also give you the opportunity to meet new people and meet random strangers to change your life.

You can hear people’s stories and then return to your changed daily life. But sometimes, when these road trips are carried out in inclement weather, they can also bring uncertainty, fear, and danger.

Road trips in winter!

Winter road trips will definitely be fun. But to have a positive experience, you must be prepared and know how to avoid unpleasant surprises. Unlike road trips in summer or spring, winter trips present us with various challenges. Before you decide to start a road trip in the cold season, you must be fully prepared. Before hitting the road, you must take all necessary measures and prepare yourself and your car.

Do a car check-up

The opinions of professionals are always important to whether your car is ready for the future journey. Ask your mechanic to check the brakes, batteries, lights, oil, and tires of your vehicle. Get the green light from your mechanic-cross out this item from your winter road trip preparation checklist. And don’t forget to keep your fuel tank at least half full. If you are trapped in a desolate area, it can keep your car moving to keep warm.

Plan route in advance

This tip applies to all types of road trips. However, not all roads are equal in winter, and some roads may be closed due to bad weather. Using the updated route map to check road conditions in advance and plan your route will help you more than you think. If it’s too late to find the latest route map, use the main roads most likely to be available throughout the year to plan your road trip.

If someone is waiting for you at your destination, please inform them in advance of the route you plan to follow and your estimated time of arrival. Even if no one is waiting for you, please tell your relatives or someone you trust about your road trip plans so they can check with you and help if anything happens.

Don’t forget a survival kit

Before going out, you need to pack a tow rope, flashlight, matches, shovel, gloves, candles, and tissues. All these items, along with fire extinguishers, ice scrapers, road flares, batteries, and tool kits, can be used at any time during your winter journey. Store them in your car before you embark on a trip to the winter wonderland. If your car breaks down on the road, they will help you a lot.

Clothes and food for the winter

It never snows where I come from, and I don’t know how many times I hope it will snow. I moved to Bulgaria for a few years. It snows there, sometimes even in April. I realized that living by the sea and relatively warm temperatures, my whole life made me “vulnerable” to winter. I now try to stay away from the cold weather whenever I have a chance.

I can hardly imagine how people in Colorado or Alaska, the two snowiest places in the United States, would spend the cold winter. Whether you are used to cold weather or not, it’s always a good idea to bring extra warm clothes, blankets, an extra pair of gloves, socks, and another pair of shoes with you. It is also advisable to carry homemade food with you or to buy some snacks in advance.

At some point during the journey, you will feel hungry, but you don’t always find a place to eat or buy snacks. Therefore, you should always have enough water and food in your car.

Entertainment on board

Audiobooks, CDs with your favorite music, or various games that take your kids on a trip are just some basic entertainment. If you travel with your best friends or family, you can entertain each other at any time even if you have nothing else.

For example, someone can read or sing for you (I hope you have good singers in your family or circle of friends). But if you are traveling alone, bringing your favorite music is a must. This is a great list of road trip songs you can enjoy.
